Job Description for Lead Remodeler
OPPORTUNITY: Growing Remodeling Company is looking for a top-notch employee. Projects range from small one-day projects to month-long remodels. You will start by working under the owner's supervision, as helper/co-worker on projects. As you learn our way of doing things, you will receive increasing responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be a Lead Carpenter managing the production of projects, with a helper, within 6 months.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITY: Execute profitable production activities, as assigned, that support the goals of the company. Be the main hands-on person for each project, spending over 75% of your time performing construction work. Occasionally coordinate subcontractors or helpers, and inspect their work. Ensure all work is completed properly and to the high standards for which our company is known. Maintain and track company assets used on each project, including tools and materials.

Education: High School Graduate or GED. At least 1 continuing education or training course.
Experience: Minimum 5 years hands-on in residential remodeling and repairs Minimum 2 years supervisory experience.
Background Check: Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Working Conditions:
- 90% of time is spent working at job sites.
- Driver's license and good driving record is required. Must have own transportation.
- Normal work schedule is Mon-Fri 7am-3pm or 10am-6pm. Longer days and unusual hours are occasionally necessary.
- Normal work locations are in Northern Virginia (East Fairfax County, Alexandria, Arlington) and Capitol Hill in DC.
Physical Requirements:
- perform tasks on all areas and aspects of a construction project.
- climb and work from ladders at heights of up to 40 feet
- crawl for distances of 50 feet in confined areas.
- work with tools, lumber, and materials, in dusty environments
- regularly lift and manipulate objects of up to 70 lbs. for up to 50 feet, and occasionally 100lbs. for short distances
- occasional work in extreme temperature conditions (outside during winter & in attics during summer), with proper protection and breaks.
Tools: You should have your own basic hand tools. carpentry tools, and cordless power tools.
Compensation: Starting Rate $15-20/hr, progressing to $20-25+/hr. as Lead Carpenter.
Bonuses and tool compensation allow the right candidate to earn $50,000-70,000/year.

Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Able to perform construction work with proper techniques and great attention to detail, including accuracy within 1/16", smooth results doing drywall/paint, etc. Looking for someone that has the craftsman mind-set, takes pride in producing quality work, and continually tries to improve knowledge and techniques.
- Willing to perform construction work according to company-approved techniques, which may be different from techniques used at your previous places of employment.
- Able to inspect your own and others work for defects, then correct them properly.
- Able to treat a Clients home with the utmost respect, care, and cleanliness.
- Experience in the following areas of residential remodeling:
- Framing - Proficient at layout, framing, finishing of typical projects, including room additions and remodeling.
- Carpentry - Proficient at trim carpentry including casing, baseboards, crown molding, shelving, replacing exterior trim, door & window installation, thresholds, cabinet installation, etc.
- Drywall - Ability to hang and finish drywall (new and repairs). To finish a wall/ceiling to a Level 1, 3, or 5 finish.
- Painting - High-end residential painting, interior and exterior. All preparation that is necessary to complete a top-quality paint job.
Preferred Knowledge and Experience:
- Knowledge of residential construction and remodeling trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, safety, adherence to applicable building codes, and proficient at blueprint reading.
- Tile - Standard ceramic/porcelain floor and wall tile installations to a high quality, without lippage, uneven grout lines, etc.
- Electrical - Some experience with electrical and low-voltage wiring installation.
- Plumbing - Some experience with minor residential plumbing repairs, faucet replacement, and appliance installation.
- Roofing, Gutters, etc - Experience with other basic residential systems.
Interpersonal and Communications Skills:
- Proficient in English verbal and written communication.
- Able to clearly explain steps, provide clear directions, and answer questions about construction processes to others.
- Able to use phone and email to communicate clearly. Experience using Microsoft Word/Excel.
- Adept at establishing relationships with all parties involved in the construction process that facilitate harmonious working relationships during projects, and permit prompt resolution of problems and conflicts as they occur.
Organizational Skills:
- Able to organize progress of a project, including helpers and trade contractors on a single jobsite.
- Able to organize and produce materials lists, and acquire the materials at the proper time.
- Able to quickly identify potential schedule conflicts, then generate and implement needed modifications.
- Able to keep a work truck organized, so to reduce time spent finding items.
- Able to complete required paperwork.
Problem Solving:
- Ability to identify the potential roadblocks, bottlenecks, and other potential problems that happen during a project, then take action to correct these issues to ensure a profitable project.
- Ability to develop alternative solutions to resolve scheduling conflicts, project delays, and design modifications.
